Whether you come to Gansbaai to fish, dive, ecotour, or simply to experience the beauty of the great outdoors, you enjoy the opportunity to visit our unique and interesting communities during your vacation.
The opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast are endless. Whether you want to test your mettle in a remote background setting or enjoy a peaceful family-style get-away, you will find the destination of your choice here in Gansbaai.
This is an area of contrast ...miles of unspoiled beaches; nature reserves with over 1500 species of Fynbos; ancient milkwood forests; rocky inlets and spectacular cliffs with views across Walker Bay.
Visitors may have a hard time deciding what activity to do for the day.
Gansbaai also boasts a number of fine restaurants and pubs. At it is impossible to do all this in one day, relax in one of our highly recommended accommodation establishments, listening to the sounds of nature and enjoying the spectacular sunsets.
Gansbaai is also in the heart of the Fynbos biome, home to thousands of plant-species, many of which are some of the rarest on earth. Most of the area is protected in conservancies and reserves but there are organised hikes in the region.
When an area is centered around a place called "Danger Point", it tells you that adventure will never be far away. Having said that, there are several protected coves, bays and estuaries very suitable for swimming and experienced diving instructors will safely navigate you through the ocean. Shark diving is done from the safety of a cage and whale watching from a boat- is in no manner a threat. Along the shore, there are several perfect fishing spots, and endless sandbeaches invite for long walks.
One of the few quad biking barnes in the Western Cape is also found here. If you prefer green over blue, the local golf course has spectacular views (admittedly over the ocean) and there are several shorter and longer hiking, horse- and 4x4 trails in the hinterland.
